Baby and Me Art Class and Butterflies
January 10, 2020Tilley and I facilitated a weekly Baby and Me Art Class for about four months. The goal was to share some approaches to creating art and a home studio with a baby, 9 months-18 months old. It was an entire day event for us every Monday. We would pack a lunch and a change of clothes. Tilley would help me set up the art supplies we would share with the other families. We found lining the floor with brown paper was better than using tarps. We brought projects we made ourselves at home. For example leaf impressions during leaf season, and hand print cards for the holidays.
All in all, I am glad we decided to try it, although I did not decide to do another session. To be successful, I would want it to be hosted in a place that is mine. I am tossing around the idea of having a session here in my home. However, it may be in the summer when we can all jump in the creek afterwards.
Besides this art adventure with Tilley, I have been given an opportunity to create 4 butterfly murals for the Cullowhee Community Garden. It is timely to receive this grant. I have been researching art true to representation of nature. The Gorges State Park across the gravel road from where I live is known for its several rare species of flowers and critters. I have been dreaming about some children’s books that involve Tilley and my exploration of this park. This community garden educational project will display four top butterfly species who visit the garden in each phase of their life cycle. Nature is purely fascinating.
